Lancaster Post 11 American Legion Baseball

Beginning May 26, 2020, baseball in Ohio was allowed to resume under strict guidelines. The attached link provides the Ohio Department of Health Guidelines.

Under these guidelines the game will look much different.  No matter what our personal feelings are regarding COVID-19, it is clear that playing baseball during the novel coronavirus pandemic will present additional risks, including potential exposure to the coronavirus. 

To better protect the Fairfield County Baseball Complex Association (FCBCA), the host field for Lancaster Post 11 American Legion Baseball, each associated team, players, coaches and umpires, we are requiring that all FCBCA participants sign a Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement (the “Release”).   

The Release sets the tone and makes clear that each participant accepts the risk, including the risk of contracting the coronavirus, and agrees to be responsible for their own actions.  The Release does not permit someone to intentionally harm another participant.  With all participants executing the Release, everyone is on an even playing field.  

There have been questions regarding the language regarding “hold harmless and indemnify.”  There is always a chance that participant damages property, or injuries another person during competition.  Insurance is the first line of defense.  If insurance denies coverage, something FCBCA cannot control but must anticipate, then the participant causing the harm agrees that FCBCA shall not be responsible.  This does not change the standard course of liability.  Again, the Release is designed to set the tone, make the clear the risks, and protect all involved.

If you and/or your child want to participate on a team associated with FCBCA, you must sign the Release. This includes players, coaches and umpires.
